Privacy

last updated 2026-08-18

This site is a static set of files showing public housing statistics. It has no accounts, no logins, no comments, and no shopping cart, so there is nothing here that needs your identity and nothing that asks for it.

Two things do collect something: Google Analytics, and the web server’s own access log. Both are described in full below, along with everything the site stores in your own browser.

Analytics

The site loads Google Analytics 4 (measurement ID G-XMZZHX8KN2) on every page. It is the only third-party request the site makes — there are no ad networks, no trackers, no social pixels, and no embedded third-party content.

Google Analytics sets cookies and records the usual measurement data: the pages you view, referring page, approximate location derived by Google from your IP address, device and browser type, and how long you stay. Google processes this on its own terms as described in Google’s privacy policy. This site does not use Analytics for advertising, does not enable Google Signals or ad personalisation, and does not join this data to anything else.

The site itself never sees your IP address through Analytics, and does not run any IP-geolocation lookup of its own.

What the site stores in your browser

These are first-party keys written by the site itself. They stay on your device, are never transmitted anywhere, and clearing site data removes them.

First-party browser storage keys used by Florida Housing Data
echmd.themeYour light or dark theme choice, so the site does not flash the wrong theme on the next visit. Local storage.
echmd.explorer.kpisWhich metric tiles you chose to show on the Explorer, so the layout persists between visits. Local storage.
fhd:skew-reloadA one-shot marker used to reload the page exactly once if a deploy happens mid-visit and leaves your tab on a stale build. Session storage; cleared when you close the tab.

Fonts are served from this domain rather than fetched from Google Fonts, so loading a page makes no font request to a third party.

Server logs

The web server keeps standard access logs — IP address, timestamp, requested URL, referrer, user agent, response code. This is ordinary hosting behaviour, needed to keep the site up and to spot abuse. Logs are not used to build profiles, are not combined with Analytics, and are not shared.

The contact form

The form on /contact/ sends what you type — name, email address, optional subject, and message — as an email to the address on that page. Nothing is written to a database, because there is no database behind this site.

The email also records your IP address, your browser’s user agent, and the time, so that abuse can be traced. Separately, a count of recent submissions per IP address is kept in temporary server storage for one hour to rate-limit the form; it holds timestamps against a one-way hash of the address, nothing else, and it is discarded after that.

Messages are kept as long as the correspondence is useful and are never added to a mailing list. Please do not send confidential or personally identifying information — this is a statistics site and has no use for it.

What this site does not do
  • No advertising, ad networks, or retargeting.
  • No selling, renting, or sharing of visitor data. Ever.
  • No accounts, newsletters, or mailing lists.
  • No cross-site tracking, fingerprinting, or session recording.
  • No collection of personal information about the people behind the housing statistics — every figure is an aggregate published by a third party.
Your choices

You can opt out of Google Analytics entirely with Google’s official opt-out browser add-on, or by blocking analytics in your browser or an extension. The site works identically with Analytics blocked — nothing here depends on it.

Blocking or clearing cookies and site data also removes the three first-party keys above; the only effect is that your theme and Explorer tile choices reset to their defaults.
